Thoughts  &  Talks...

Have you ever tried to be helpful, kind, and encouraging to someone and your actions backfired on you and left you feeling like a failure?  I know I have many times. Sometimes it wasn't even what was said that was so hurtful, but who said what that caused the most pain.  Sadly, we may all have been guilty of this at one time or another.

God tells us in Scripture that we are to forgive those who have trespassed against us, and to pray without ceasing for one another.  However, Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) states, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." This Scripture is a great reminder in knowing that our thoughts, words, actions, and reactions toward others are controlled within us.  Even though it can be very easy to get caught up in the drama of our offenders, II Thessalonians 1:6 (NIV) states, "God is just:  He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you."  Therefore, God will not only hold us accountable for our choices and reactions, regardless of what others may have done or said to us or about us, but He will take care of our trespassers.  God also knows our hearts, and when the timing is right, He will give us the wisdom, strength, and the courage to know when to walk away from those who have offended us.  Sometimes we just have to let go and let God!

The following poem was written on a wall in Mother Teresa's home, and it is framed and hanging on a wall in my home as well.  It is another wonderful reminder that even though others may believe that our choices, motives, and actions may not be genuine, we are to forgive them, pray for them, and keep doing the good anyway, every day!

Do It Anyway

"People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends
and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway."
